KOFI ANNAN, FORMER UN SECRETARY GENERAL, IS DEAD
The former UN Secretary-General, Mr Kofi Annan, has been reported dead at age 80 during the early hours of Saturday (August 18) in Switzerland after a brief illness.
The Ghanaian (April 8, 1938) and Nobel Peace Laureate served as Secretary-General from 1996 - December 2006. The news of his death was released in a statement by his family and was confirmed by the Founder and Chairman of the Kofi Annan Foundation as well as the United Nations Migration Agency on social media.

In addition, his home country, Ghana has declared a week of mourning after his death.
