CAUSES OF HAIR BREAKAGE.. .
It is indeed a painful sight to behold when you find out that your hair is breaking. Although everyone (ladies) shed a good number of hair everyday but when you are suffering from hair breakage, the number multiplies significantly.
What then are the causes of hair breakage?
1. Hair - care Devices
The regular use of heated hair-care devices like blow dryers, curling irons and flat irons can damage the hair. Research has proven that the warmth that is produced by these devices penetrate the hair shaft, causing it to become fragile and more vulnerable to breakage.
2. Hair Styling Products and Chemicals
The regular use of dyes, bleaches, relaxers and perms can lead to hair breakage too. The harsh chemical agents such as peroxide and hydroxide ions that are contained in these products can be very hard on the hair. It is therefore advisable that they are used moderately to preserve the locks.
3. Hair Accessories and Hairstyles
Hair accessories and certain hairstyles have the potential to damage the hair. Rubber bands and hairpins that are worn too tightly can lead to hair breakage. Therefore, do not tight the hair with tight rubber bands and avoid wearing the same hairstyle that causes hair breakage
regularly.
4. Aggressive Combing
Many ladies believe that an aggressive combing of the hair straightenes it thereby causing hair growth. This is incorrect. Too much combing, brushing and vigorous shampooing can cause hair breakage. Gently massage your hair with shampoo of your hair - type, apply conditioner and comb your hair gently in other to avoid breakage.
5. Vitamin Deficiencies
A deficiency of vitamins B and E and iron may lead to hair breakage. Good sources of vitamin B include meat, poultry, milk, fish, eggs etc. Vitamin E-rich foods include nuts, avocado, mango, spinach etc. Too little iron in your diet can also cause your hair to break off. Iron can be found in fish, vegetables, meat, beans, pumpkin seeds and iron-fortified cereals.
6. Weight Loss
Hair breakage can sometimes be a temporary side effect of weight loss. When you lose weight, you may experience hair loss several months after you drop the weight regardless of how slowly the weight is shed but the health of your hair will eventually return to normal.
7. Medical/Health Conditions
Dry, fragile hair that easily breaks off can sometimes be an indication of a medical problem. This includes eating disorders and many other health issues that when treated properly, the hair will return.
